Paulette Tavormina
Paulette Tavormina, designer and photographer,
is the creator of "Venetian Dream" scarves which are
worn by stylish, sophisticated women worldwide and sold in boutiques
throughout the United States and Italy. Her background reflects
her artistic sensitivity and talents that have led to many successful
endeavors in art and fashion.
Paulette worked at Sotheby's in New York for ten years where she developed a keen eye and appreciation for fine and decorative arts. She moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico; where she became a commercial photographer, photo stylist and food & prop specialist for major motion pictures.
She photographed images for print and
billboard advertisements as well as a variety of publications
including books about historic Indian pottery and classic Navajo
Indian jewelry. She was a contributing photographer for "The
Santa Fean" Magazine, featuring her holiday covers. She
developed gift wrap paper for Abbeville Press and exhibited photographs
in Contax Camera Trade Shows. She became a contributing photographer
of food and travel for Stockfood, an international photography
agency, and she created images for Art Plate Inc., a switchplate
company.
As a prop specialist and food stylist,
Paulette worked on eight major motion pictures in which she was
responsible for researching, designing and manufacturing props
as well as creating and preparing elaborate food scenes. In this
capacity she traveled with film crews to Thailand, Australia
and Hong Kong. The movies included "The Perfect Storm"
(George Clooney), "Nixon" (Anthony Hopkins), "The
Astronaut's Wife" (Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron) and
"U-Turn", by Oliver Stone (Sean Penn and Jennifer Lopez).
Her photographic skills and interest
in the food world were a perfect blend for styling cookbooks.
She worked with photographers, chefs and art directors to style,
create and prepare food sets for eight cookbooks, such as: Doug
Rodriquez's Latin Flavors on the Grill, Mark Miller's Red
Sage Cookbook, Mark Miller's The Great Salsa Cookbook
and his Indian Market Cookbook.
She then traveled to Sicily, land of
her ancestors, where she began a love affair with the people,
the old world elegance and natural beauty of the island. She
photographed Sicily's Greek temples, the bustling food markets
in Palermo, and the island's colors, tastes and quiet beauty.
Her "Sicilian Dream" photographs evoke the mood of
this magical, ancient land.
Paulette created a scarf business of
hand knit Italian yarns, inspired by her love of color and texture
and by the exquisite yarn she discovered in her travels to Italy.
She was also inspired by her mother, Josephine, who was a talented
knitter. Her signature scarf "Carnavale" is made of
wool and silk. The silky ribbons of the multi-textured fabric
causes the colors to glisten. Her collection of scarves "Venetian
Dreams" is sold in boutiques worldwide.
Her photographs "Sicilian Dreams"
